Our Surf fishing season is about to kick off here in Texas.. Once the water is constantly 70 degrees in the surf the fishin get really good. It's still around 63 degrees.. About 3 more weeks yet..
I grew up in League City, which is just north of Galveston, Texas and I have spent many a day at the beach surf fishing. I would say that now untill the sea weed comes is very active at San Louis pass and down on crystal beach. But mid sept is the best shark fishing I have seen in Texas. Not saying it isn't bad right now. But as for the green horn I would definatly suggest a one-peice rod over a breakaway any day. You get way mor action out of the one-peice helping you recover those big fish. But I guess this statement also depends on what kinds of fish you are targeting. If you are just looking for some big trout and slotted reds a break away would be fine, but if you are looking for sharks or bull reds go with the one-piece.

Sure thing Ted. A long rod like the breakaway HDX is a must and a reel like the Daiwa Sha 20 Sealine is great for casting long distances. We use light line for the main line.. Around 15 lb. test and then a 15 foot "shock leader" atached to that to take all the force while casting. My friend owns http://www.breakawayusa.com and carries all of these products. If you are interested in anything, I can take to him and see what I can do. All of his product are high quality and great for surf fishing.. Let me know what you think.. Regards,
Hi Sapo, I've tried it but probably didn't know as much about it as I thought I did cause I never caught many fish. Can you offer any advise for newbees to surf fishing?
